The talocrural and subtalar joints (together what we call the "ankle") control the motion of the foot, and with the surrounding muscles create the following 6 movements:

Plantar Flexion
Lifting the heel so that the toes point down
Dorsiflexion
Lifting the front of the foot so that the heel drops down
Ankle / Foot Abduction
Turning the foot out (laterally) at the ankle
Ankle / Foot Adduction
Turning the foot in (medially) at the ankle
Ankle / Foot Inversion
Tilting the inside of the foot up and the outside down
Ankle / Foot Eversion
Tilting the outside of the foot down and the inside up
