Blood Flow Restriction (aka Occlusion) Training is a revolutionary, game-changing new discovery and technology in exercise science and performance! Among many other benefits, when applied correctly it allows you to train with extremely light weight... yet achieve ALL the same size and strength benefits of high-load training - without any of the joint stress!
Sound too good to be true? Read up on some of the thousands of new scientific research studies that have proven the mind-blowing benefits of BFR training in the Scientific Research section below!
Heavy-duty metal buckles
Spring-loaded lever with metal teeth makes them extremely easy to tighten and loosen to precise levels of pressure
The 1" wide design ensures the band fit snugly between deltoid and bicep, not covering the muscle bellies that you're working!
No slippage or buckle failures - EVER
Able to generate significant, maximum-efficiency pressure for clinical effectiveness
Premium, extra-thick nylon ensures long-lasting usage without losing elasticity
Two colors of thick elastics that hold the slack firmly in place
Sleek black design goes with any clothing
Cheap plastic buckles
Rely solely on pressure, making it very difficult to tighten and almost impossible to loosen in small, precise amounts
Bands are too wide, resulting in the band covering a significant part of the muscles you're working, which nullifies the benefits!
Frequent slippage and buckle failures
Unable to reach high levels of pressure, decreasing effectiveness
Cheap, thin nylon that loses elasticity after a relatively short time of usage
Thin elastic does little to hold the slack in place, forcing frequent re-adjustment
Ugly striped colors clash with clothing

Note: The pre-wrap layer is completely optional and unnecessary to get the results you want. I'm simply providing this information for those who may have sensitive skin and want to make the bands a little more comfortable, or want to increase the effective width of the bands.
Pre-wrap is very cheap and has a multitude of other uses. You can see the Amazon listing of the pre-wrap I personally use (and show in this video) by going to my Amazon Referral Page (click here) and selecting the "Joint Support & Padding" list.

Q: Are BFR bands safe?
A: YES! A significant amount of research has been done on the safety of blood flow restriction training with no long or short-term dangers or damage found - neither in the musculoskeletal or cardiovascular systems. However that needs to be taken with two caveats. First, all the studies I’ve seen were performed on healthy individuals, so particularly if you already have an existing cardiovascular condition, or have in the past, I recommend speaking with your doctor before using BFR bands. And second, even if you don’t have any pre-existing conditions, please understand that this is not a medical device and I’m NOT giving medical advice. There may well be dangers that neither I nor anyone else is yet aware of, so still I recommend speaking with your doctor to make sure BFR training is safe for you if you have any concerns.
Q: How tight should they be?
A: That depends on how heavy you're lifting. The Dr. Gains BFR Bands will allow you to use light weight / low loads and achieve the same hypertrophy and strength gains you'd get if you were to lift extremely heavy weight / high loads. As such, researchers have found that there is a direct relationship between the amount of pressure used by the bands, and how light you can go to still achieve those results. The greater the pressure, the lighter the load can be and still achieve the high-load gains. With my professional-grade BFR cuffs, you can actually measure and control the exact pressure generated by the cuffs in mmHg and compare it to your own blood pressure to achieve extremely precise results. With the nylon bands, it's more a relative amount of pressure that you can gauge by the numbers along the bands.
Here's a good rule of thumb. You want to cut off venous flow (veins are more superficial / lie closer to the surface of the skin) but not arterial flow (arteries are deeper / lie further down from the surface of the skin). You can judge that by paying attention to how your arms looks and feel with the bands on. Your arm will turn red when you close off venous flow, but shouldn’t turn purple or blue, which would mean you're cutting off arterial flow as well. You also shouldn’t get tingling or numbness in your fingers. As long as none of those things are happening, you’re safe, and it's a matter of testing out different levels of pressure to find what feels and works best for you!
Note: It will likely feel uncomfortable when you first start using the bands! Your muscles will tire much more quickly than they otherwise would. That's okay! Again, as long as none of the signs I mentioned above are present, indicating that you're cutting off arterial blood flow.
Q: What muscles will BFR training work on?
A: Most people that are only somewhat familiar with blood flow restriction training believe that it only works on muscles that are distal to (after) the restricton site, so for example if the arm bands are placed between the deltoids and biceps, it will only work on the biceps, triceps, and forearms. However, studies have shown that in addition to working on the distal muscles, BFR training also works on the muscle groups that are proximal to (before) the restriction site! So the arm bands will also work on the shoulder, chest, and back muscles!
On the flip side, the leg bands - when placed around the upper thighs - will work on the distal leg muscle groups (quads, hamstrings and calves), AND the proximal muscle groups (glutes, lower back, and abs / core). So with a pair of arm and leg bands, you can reap BFR benefits for virtually any muscle group in the body!!
Hundreds of scientific studies and clinical trials have proven the incredible benefits of blood-flow restriction training, and its ability to stimulate muscular hypertrophy (size) and strength gains far beyond what the actual weight and volume of exercise performed should achieve! Below I've compiled some of the most important of those studies, each dedicated to a slightly different aspect of BFR training, or answering a different question:
